Matěj Papež

"I got into climbing by chance thanks to a tip from a physiotherapist my mother used to train with. I started at the age of 5 at the Salesians in České Budějovice. I combined climbing with football at TJ Mokrá, playing the guitar and later hockey at Lvů ČB and in Hluboká nad Vltavou. I gradually became more involved in climbing, until it finally won out and I devote most of my free time to training. I enjoy the complexity of climbing, it is not enough to just have strength, coordination and involvement of the whole body, including the head, are necessary.

My home club has been Orel České Budějovice for several years, where I also train and for the second year I have been representing it in competitions organized by the Czech Mountaineering Association. Other trainings take place mostly on walls in Prague, Brno, Linz and on rocks. I am a 1st year student at SOŠ Velešín, majoring in electrical engineering and computer systems.

My goal is to get into Czech national team, which I almost succeeded in this year in the bouldering category."
